Migration project complete, but is really ever done?

November 11, 2025 1 min read

Projects have a goal in mind. They may even have a scope defined. You do however learn things along the path and think of things you really should do.

I have completed the migration of the data to the new database. Creating a new dbcontext worked well for my scenario. It may not be good for all cases. Even now there are things that I would likely do differently. I have some things that didn't make the cut for scope. I suppose I should list them here to do two things, remind you that these are things you should consider when doing this and to remind myself of my items still to do. My own technical debt. - Automate database backups - Implement and rehearse a database restore process from a backup - Create a development database - Implement database connectivity monitoring and alerts I didn't implement these because I didn't really have those before. I really should have them, but my mind is being diverted to something more, well fun while I am on vacation from my day job. More about that next time.
